Armand Guillaumin (1841-1927) often had to wait for vacation to pursue his art—he worked in a shop for ladies' lingerie, then was a clerk for a railroad, and the husband of a schoolteacher—but that changed after he won a big lottery prize in 1891.

Dutch Garden Directions

  • Heading north on S. Main St. towards the courthouse, look for the driveway immediately after the Domino's Pizza on your left. Heading south from N. Main St., go through the traffic light at New Hempstead Rd. and just past the courthouse front lawn turn right. There is a small garden and a bronze statue just inside the entrance.
  • Enter the parking lot from New Hempstead Rd behind the courthouse. Look for the wooden bridge over the stream and go up the stairs to the right. That brings you to the Dutch Gardens entrance behind the tea house. The program takes place at the far end of the garden.
  • If that parking lot is full, you may park in the rear courthouse parking area and take the stairs up to the Dutch Gardens.
