Who was Alexander Dumas?

The author of many famous works of literature including The Three Musketeers and The Count of Monte Cristo, Alexander Dumas had a tremendous writing career. What many modern readers may not know was that Dumas' father was born to an enslaved woman and a French nobleman. Dumas would experience racism throughout his life and it certainly influenced his work.  He was also a playwright, a journalist and as one friend described him "the most generous, large-hearted being in the world."  Learn more about Dumas' life and work with librarian Veronica Reynolds.
