Some in Rockland County may know the name Mary Mowbray-Clarke in connection with her work as a landscape architect on the Dutch Gardens WPA project, but she led a fascinating life long before this. This talk will touch on her early life in Nyack, where she was born in 1874, her role in organizing the infamous 1913 Armory Show, her trailblazing work as one of the first women bookshop owners in the US, her fostering of an organic "artist's community" on South Mountain Road, and the many artistic careers she helped to launch.
