In 1847 Eleazar Lord, first president or New York & Erie Railroad, donated 200 acres of his property on Mt. Nebo in Sparkill for a cemetery. He envisioned it becoming major burial place for New York City residents. Its best-known grave is that of John C. Fremont, "The Pathfinder" and California's first governor and senator. In addition, we will visit the former Erie Railroad train station built in 1873 in Piermont. We will also walk along the Old Erie Rail Trail where the railroad once ran to Nyack with a stop at the former Erie Railroad Station in Piermont. A total of 5 miles of walking along these trails. All participants must sign an activity waiver prior to the outing. Registration opens April 15th. Please call 845 634 4997 x125 to register for this program and receive additional instructions.
