Mapping the Empire State: Discover New York through 10,000+ Maps Preserved at the State Archives
Presented by the Genealogical Society of Rockland County and the New City Library. All are welcome, you don't need to be a member of the Genealogical Society to attend! This will be an online program presented via Zoom. Please register to receive a Zoom link.
We'll be watching a pre-recorded video presentation from Consulting Archivist Prof. Clare Flemming, and New York State Archivist Tom Ruller on the many thousands of maps held by the New York State Archives in Albany. In addition to seeing some highlights of the collection, we'll also learn about the archives' finding aids and how researchers have used maps for a variety of projects. We'll also get some behind the scenes views on how archives operate, and see some examples of digitization and conservation projects going on at the State Archives.
Some brief Genealogical Society business will be covered just prior to the program.
