We will be discussing The River by Peter Heller.

A beauty-of-nature/cruelty-of-humanity hybrid, this adventure is about two young friends on a Canadian canoeing trip. They are faced with a massive forest fire that behaves like it’s a monster and a murderous fellow outdoorsman they tangle with, who literally has them in his sights for most of the book. The novel creates an artful tension and an affectionate realistic portrayal of male friendship and courage without macho sentiment or condescension.
