We will be discussing Sugar Run by Mesha Maren.
Jodi shot her girlfriend when she was 17. After living most of her life in prison, at 35 she must make a new life in the real world that she has never known. She’ll meet someone, and they’ll try to build something together in a small West Virginia town where they are outsiders in every way. Despite the poverty and violence they face, the drug dealing and addiction, the lack of jobs and the earth and community-destroying fracking, this fragile couple hold fast to hope.
