Be one of the first 50 New City Library card holders and receive a goodie bag honoring the 50th anniversary of our charter! Back in 1971, you could go to the library on South Main Street (pictured at left), and then on your way home stop for a dozen eggs that would cost 53 cents. You could fill up your tank with gas for 36 cents a gallon and then pick up an 8 cent first-class stamp from the post office. Many things have changed over the years, but there is one constant: You can still take out great books at the library for free! (Learn more about 1971 by going to our YouTube channel’s playlist of recorded programs. You’ll find historian Evan Weiner’s program about 1971 at #50.)
